Dr Lima Wetherell — Gynaecologist, Robotic and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon

Level 6 Laparoscopic Surgeon, AGES Fellowship Trained

Dr Lima Wetherell is a highly trained Melbourne gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgeon. She has completed an additional two years of training in advanced laparoscopic surgery through the national AGES (Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery) Fellowship at Monash Health, a high case load training program in advanced pelvic surgery focusing on the laparoscopic management of endometriosis, fibroids, hysterectomy and other complex cases referred through a tertiary network. Her main areas of interest are the excisional surgical management of endometriosis including bowel endometriosis, fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding requiring hysterectomy, and fertility sparing surgery. She performs complex pelvic surgery with a high level of attention to detail, and consults and operates at Epworth Freemasons in East Melbourne.

Lima prides herself on having an understanding and caring bedside manner, with a patient centred approach being the focus of her consultations. Each appointment is tailored to the specific needs of the patient with a focus on multidisciplinary management.

Training and Qualifications

Lima grew up in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, graduating from medical school at the University of Melbourne in 2012. She then completed her specialist training in Gynaecology, obtaining her FRANZCOG at the Royal Women’s Hospital in 2021, before pursuing further training through her AGES Fellowship at Monash Health and consolidating her skills in minimally invasive surgery. She has also completed her Masters of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Throughout this time Lima has been involved in research and clinical studies and is the principal author on a number of published studies.

Public Appointment and Research

Lima currently holds a public appointment at Monash Health, with both clinics and theatre lists across all four campuses, working in the Endosurgical Department. In her spare time Lima likes to spend time with her two beautiful children and husband, who is also a surgeon.
